The following rules and guidelines for our club competitions are compatible with the requirements of the Photograph Federation of Long Island (PFLI), so that winners of our local contests can be forwarded to PFLI for adjudication at that level and are eligible for PFLI awards.

Below are some important rules that all competition competitors must know if they want their work to be forwarded to PFLI to compete at that level.
MEDIA
Competition submissions are either prints or digital images.
Prints may be in color or black and white and may be of maximum size of 16 x 20 inches mounted.
Digital images must
- be in jpg (or .jpeg) format,
- be in the sRGB color space,
- have a resolution of exactly 72 pixels per inch (or dots per inch (dpi)),
- be sized to 1800 pixels on the longest side.
CATEGORIES
Category A – Color Prints [A & B Class] are either Conventional Color prints or Black and White prints with one or more colors
Category B – Black and White Prints [A & B Class] shall be only monochromatic black and white, or prints toned with a single overall color (sepia, blue, etc.)
Category C – Digital Color Images [A & B Class] are Color images in electronic format and will follow the same criteria as Color Prints.
Category D – Digital Black & White Images [Single class] – are Black and White images in electronic format and must follow the same criteria as Black and White Prints.
Category E – ** Creative Digital Images [Single Class] – Shall be Color or Black and White images in electronic format.
- Creative images are the maker’s artistic alterations of their original photograph. All work must originally be created photographically by the maker, including montages. You CANNOT enter a purely computer-generated image, just as you cannot enter an oil or watercolor painting.
- You cannot add clip art or stock images, not your own (i.e., the NASA image of earth from space).
Category F – ** Macro/Close Up Digital Images [Single Class] are Color or Black and White images that focus on the details of a subject (i.e., center of a flower, bee on a flower, bug, etc.).
NOTE ** In any given Monthly Competition a maker may submit ONE image – EITHER to Creative or to Macro/Close Up. Throughout the year a maker can put images into both categories but not in the same month.
A maker can submit a total of six images:
- One color, one black and white, one macro, and one creative – all digital images
- One color and one black and white print
